Sample Student Scenarios
A junior psychology major, Kathy wants
to eventually earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and
then practice psychotherapy. Working as an intern with
Dr. Leon, Executive Director of hte local community
health center, she realizes that she is also attracted
to the administrative side of mental health care. Dr.
Leon alerts her to the fact that clinical skills are
not enough and that mental health administrators need
to have business and organizational skills as well.

Marian, a sophomore Russian History major, knows
that she must earn a Ph.D. in order to teach at a university.
Graduate programs in Russian history are few in number
and competitive. She realizes that knowledge and skills
that could create more job opportunities are essential
for her if she opts for a career outside of academia.

sculpture. Eventually, he wants to open his own studio
and sell his work directly to the public. He knows that
running a successful studio will require that he be
not only a good artist but also an effective businessman.
